Abstract: This collection largely consists of papers related to Guy Bell Young's activities in the West Virginia Spanish-American War Veterans organization. In addition, there is a small quantity of materials related to his children, diplomas, including one for his sister-in-law, Eva Myrtle Fling, and various photographs.

Biographical Note:
Guy Bell Young was born September 26, 1874, in Gilmer County, West Virginia, to Elizabeth Hanger and Aaron Bell Young. He served in the Spanish-American War from June 1898 to April 1899, serving as a corporal in the 2nd Regiment West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. After receiving a degree from Glenville Normal School in 1900, Guy Young graduated from the WVU Law School in 1903. He practiced law in Gilmer County until his death July 10, 1962, at the age of 87. He also was Gilmer County Prosecuting Attorney, 1929-1933, member of the Gilmer County Board of Education, 1934-1940, and served one term in the West Virginia Legislature, 1945-1946. He was the oldest delegate that term, Cecil Underwood the youngest.
In 1906, Guy Bell Young married Love H. Fling, and the couple became the parents of Guy Bayard Young (born 1908), Donald Bell Young (born 1910), Maynard Fling Young (born 1912), and Mary Elizabeth Young (born 1916). Guy Bayard and Mary Elizabeth both became teachers and taught in Gilmer County. Maynard served with the Coast Guard for many years.
