Girls' Home Has Five Inmates
And Sixteen More are Expected to Arrive Soon.
May 12, 1899
Mrs. R. S. Gardner returned from Salem Tuesday evening, where she attended a meeting of the board of directors of the Girls' Industrial home. The full board was present, except B. L. Butcher who will probably not accept the appointment. All accounts were examined and approved and other matters transacted.
The institution now has five inmates, one from Charleston and four from Wheeling. The Wheeling girls were committed last Friday. Their names are [names omitted]. Sixteen more are expected soon, four of whom will arrive Saturday. At present there are accommodations for 26 in all.
