In 1939, West Virginia Archives and History launched West Virginia
History as part of its mission to preserve and disseminate the state's history. Archives and
History published the journal for more than sixty-five years, ending with Volume 60 in 2006.
During those seven decades, West Virginia History featured some of the best scholarship
on the economic, political, social, and cultural history of West Virginia
and the Appalachian region. Inquiries regarding these sixty volumes of the journal may be
directed to Mary Johnson.
