UPSHUR DEMOCRATIC MEETING.
At a meeting of a portion of the Democratic party of Upshur county, held at the court-house, on Monday, March 18, 1861, WATSON WESTFALL, Esq., was called to the Chair and John Davis Day, appointed Secretary.
A. M. Bastable, Esq., explained the object of the meeting and moved that ten delegates be appointed by the chair to represent the county of Upshur in the Congressional Convention to be held at Parkersburg on the 28th March, 1861. The motion was carried and the President appointed the following delegates, A. M. Bastable, Stuart Bennett, L. L. D. Loudin, D. D. T. Farnsworth, O. B. Loudin, W. Summers, John B. Shreve, Silas Bennett, Wm. C. Carper and John S. Fisher.
Col. L. L. D. Loudin then moved that Messrs. Robert Johnson and Wm. P. Cooper, of Clarksburg, and Dr. Wm. J. Bland, of Weston, be appointed alternates to cast the vote of this county in said convention, in the event there be no delegates present from Upshur, which was carried.
On motion of A. M. Bastable, it was
Resolved, That the Senatorial Convention be held at Upshur court house on the 15th April, 1861, and that a meeting be held at the court house of said county on the 4th of April, for the purpose of appointing delegates to represent the county in the said convention.
Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting be published in the Clarksburg Register and Weston Herald.
On motion, the meeting adjourned.
