Convention Election
Tuesday, June 4th, 1861.
The undersigned having been appointed a Committee by the late Wheeling Convention, to determine the most proper mode of choosing four delegates to represent Ohio county, in the Convention of the loyal people of Virginia, to be held on the 11th day of June, 1861, do direct that said four delegates be elected by the voters of Ohio county at an election to be held at the usual places of voting on TUESDAY, JUNE 4, 1861, between the hours of 8 o'clock A. M. and 7 o'clock P. M., as follows, to wit:
AT THE HOUSE OF SAMUEL MCCONNELL in the first election district, under the direction of Ebenezer Buchanan and Thomas B. Stewart, Conductors, and John M. Oldham and Alex. McConn, Clerks.
AT BROTHERTON'S TAVERN, in the same district under the direction of John I. Sisson and John Pierson, Conductors, and Wm. Denniston and Thos. G. Yates, Clerks.
AT THE TOWN OF WEST LIBERTY, in the second election district, under the direction of Levi Mills and Wm. Waddle, Conductors, and G. F. Sawtell and Robt. M. Bower, Clerks.
AT WOODS' RUN, in the third election district, under the direction of Wm. North and Elisha Connelly, Conductors, and C. W. Munnell and Silas Wharton, Clerks.
AT ATKINSONS' SCHOOL HOUSE, in the same district, under the direction of James Snodgrass and William Atkinson, Conductors, and Abraham McColloch and John E. Johnston, Clerks.
AT THE TOWN OF TRIADELPHIA, in the fourth election district, under the direction of Samuel H. B. Carter and Dr. J. H. Storer, Conductors, and Wm. J. Boggs and G. V. Miller, Clerks.
AT THE F[I]RST WARD HOSE HOUSE, in the seventh election district, under the direction of Thomas Sweeney and Isaac Cotts, Conductors, and Elijah Day and Hiram Young, Clerks.
AT THE COURT HOUSE, in the sixth election district, under the direction of Wm. M. Berryhill and Alex. Paxton, Conductors, and Benjamin Bloomfield and R. Irwin, Clerks.
AT THE FOURTH WARD HOSE HOUSE, in the seventh election district, under the direction of Allen S. Hallowell and Benj. Exley, Conductors, and Wm. Heburn and E. C. Jeffers, Clerks.
AT THE CENTRE WHEELING SCHOOL HOUSE, in the eighth election district, under the direction of M. B. Reed and John Gowdy, Conductors, and Jeff. Reed and Robt. Wilson, Clerks.
AT THE SOUTH WHEELING SCHOOL HOUSE, in the same district, under the direction of James M. Wheat, Sr. and Lloyd G. Hughes, Conductors, and Franklin C. Winship and Albert P. Hall, Clerks.
The Conductors will also act in the character of Commissioners,
In case of the failure to serve on the part of any one or more of the Conductors or Clerks, those in attendance are empowered to fill all vacancies.
The Clerks hereby appointed will get their poll books by calling at the County Clerks office, at the Court House, on Saturday.
The Conductors of the election will return the poll books to the undersigned on or before Thursday, the 6th June.
All loyal citizens of Ohio county are earnestly invoked to turn out to the polls, and forgetful of all previous party predelictions vote for four of their best, wisest, safest and staunchest Union men for this Convention, in the deliberations and determinations of which the whole people are so vitally interested.
