August 9, 1862.
Editors Intelligencer:
A meeting was held in Wetzel County, Va. At the Forks of Proctor, for the purpose of promoting union and harmony and to advance the cause of the Union.
The meeting was called to order by appointing Daniel Debolt Chairman.
Upon motion, William Dolan was appointed Secretary.
E. Clark was then called for and addressed the meeting in a very Christian manner, urging them to stand up shoulder to should to the cause of the Union and Constitution of the United States, and not suffer South Carolina nor Massachusetts to destroy this glorious Union.
R. W. Lauck was then called for and spoke warmly and with great energy in the cause of the Union, which had a good effect.
W. D. Walker was then called for and spoke warmly, with power and good effect in behalf of the Union and Constitution of the United States. The meeting then adjourned, and the people went peaceably to their several places of abode seemingly contented and well pleased with the above mentioned orators and their speeches.
Resolved, That the above be inserted in the Wheeling Intelligencer and Press.
