From Gen. Hunter And The First West Virginia Infantry. - Capt. Melvin, of the 1st West Virginia Infantry, arrived in the city yesterday directly from Staunton, bringing with him a list of the casualties in his regiment during the recent fight at Piedmont, near Staunton. The list appears elsewhere in this paper. Capt. M. was wounded by a shot in the right shoulder, which disabled him. The 1st infantry were the first Union soldiers that ever entered the town, never before having been occupied by Union forces. Capt. Melvin brings a rebel flag captured in a desperate charge by his regiment, which he yesterday presented to the Governor. The regimental flag of the First is riddled with bullets, and the gallant regiment should be presented with a new one at once.
