Meeting in Preston County.
August 3, 1864
At a meeting of the people of the township of Kingwood, of the county of Preston, held at the Court House on Saturday, the 29th day of July, 1864, previous notice thereof having been duly given,
On motion, John Potter Esq., was called to the chair, and James A. Brown was appointed Secretary.
The object of the meeting was stated to be the appointment of delegates from the township of Kingwood to the Grafton Convention.
And on motion of John S. Murdock, Esq., it was resolved that the Chairman of the meeting appoint ten delegates to represent this township in said Convention, in addition to r. McCafterty Esq., who at a country meeting heretofore held, was appointed for that purpose, which resolution was adopted by the meeting, and the chairman appointed the following gentlement as delegates, viz: Edgar S. Wilson, John S. Murdock, Hezekiah Pell, James P. Smith, Alexander Shaw, James Gibson, Reuben Morris, James H. Carroll, Francis Heermand and Peter S. Barrack.
On motion of John S. Murdock, it was resolved that the delegates appointed at this meeting be instructed to vote in the Grafton Convention, for our present excellent Governor for that office.
On motion of Edgar S. Wilson, Esq., it was resolved that said delegates be instructed to cast their votes, first, second and all the time, for our fellow citizen John J. Brown for the office of Auditor.
On motion it was ordered that the proceedings of this meeting be forwarded by the Secretary thereof to the Wheeling Intelligencer for publication.
