January 26, 1865
Yesterday a gang of ten rebel prisoners arrived in the city, under guard and were committed to the Atheneum. There were lately captured at different places and under different circumstances in Braxton and adjoining counties, and some of them are known to have have [sic] been extensively engaged in stealing and bushwhacking. One of them is known to have taken the oath of allegiance at least twice, and to have been a horse thief, and a barn burner.
