RECRUITING

Capt. Robb, of the 1st West Va. Vol. Infantry, arrived at home yesterday, having been thirteen months a prisoner in the Southern Confederacy. During that time he has been confined in almost all the pens and prisons of the South, and while the treatment has been uniformly severe, it has varied in the different localities. He, in company with his brother officers, was placed under fire at Charleston. Here they received better rations than at any of the other places of confinement. The Captain once made his escape and was out for five days, but was finally hunted down with dogs and recaptured. Corn and cob meal was the main ration tarnished by the Southern chivalry, and that in limited quantity. We think his treatment has not increased either his respect or love for the rebels. The following officers belonging to the same regiment, were exchanged with Capt. Robb, Capt. Craig, Lieut. Steele, Lieut. McKee, and Lieut. Baird. None of the officers belonging to the 1st regiment died during their imprisonment. They reached the Union lines near Wilmington, N.C. and when they found themselves once more among friends, nothing could exceed their joy, and cheer after cheer announced the happiness of the released prisoners.
