Duval, Isaac Isaac Hardin Duval of Wellsburg was colonel of the 9th West Virginia Infantry and later commanded the Second Division of the Army of West Virginia. He was promoted to major general and was twice severely wounded. After the war, Duval was elected to both the State Senate and the House of Delegates, was Adjutant General, and served one term in Congress. |

Edwards, William William Henry Edwards, a native of the Kanawha County community of Coalburg, was a renowned entomologist, naturalist and explorer who led an important expedition into the Amazon in 1846. He was the author of Butterflies of North America and A Voyage Up the River Amazon. In April 1861, Edwards observed the closing days of the Richmond Convention, which resulted in Virginia's secession from the Union. |

When Governor Arthur Boreman resigned to join the United States Senate, Farnsworth became governor for five days. |
