Remember...Howard V. Adams

Pvt. Howard V. Adams was born on November 18, 1907. At the time of his induction into the Army at Ft. Thomas, Newport, Kentucky, on March 23, 1944, he and his wife, Zenna B. Adams, lived at Newhall in McDowell County, West Virginia. A high school graduate, in civilian life Howard was employed by the Jacobs Fork Coal Company at Squire. The U.S. Army World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946, list Pvt. Adams as engaged in "unskilled occupations in the extraction of minerals," indicating that he likely was a coal miner.
As an infantryman, Pvt. Adams received his training at Camp Wolters, Texas. He had been in the Army less than a year:and in Europe for about two months:when he was killed in Germany on November 26, 1944. His family received a telegram on December 28 that he was missing in action, and a January 26 telegram confirmed his death.
Howard had two brothers, Leon and Lawrence, and a sister:all of whom were living in Virginia. He and Zenna had four children:Bertie Mae, Johnny, Anna Ruth, and Wayne, who were 14, 13, 10, and 7 at the time of his death.
