Remember...Clarence Edward Hagey

Clarence Edward Hagey was born January 26, 1944, in Panther, West Virginia, to Cledith and Edna Cline Hagey. He had two brothers and three sisters.
The Panther native attended Welch High School before entering the service in 1962. Clarence was stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky, Fort Gordon in Georgia, and In Korea.
In 1964 he married Patricia Anna Walker and they became the parents of a son whom they named Dean Edward.
In December 1965 he was sent to Vietnam where he served with First Air Cavalry Division. On May 18, 1966, then Specialist 4 Clarence Hagey and his company:Company B, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry:were in a sector of South Vietnam considered important because of its dominance of key terrain features and access routes. The unit met with heavy enemy fire. The brunt of the attack was directed at Specialist Hagey's squad sector. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Spec. Hagey chose to hold his ground over withdrawal and defended his position until mortally wounded.
The body of Specialist Clarence E. Hagey was returned to the United States and interred in the Ieager Cemetery at Roderfield, West Virginia.
In January of 1966 Specialist Hagey's widow was presented with the Bronze Star he had been posthumously awarded for his actions on the day of his death. Included was a V device which denotes heroism in combat.
