Remember...Allen Edward Hunter

Allen Edward Hunter was born April 7, 1931, at Charleston, West Virginia, to Edward and Lucille Gunlock Hunter. He had a sister, Betty Jean.
| He attended Fairmont Senior High School, where he participated in the band, Masque and Gavel, and Thespians, and worked on advertising for the school yearbook, but he received his diploma in Portland, Oregon, while visiting his sister. After completing high school, he returned to Fairmont and joined his father at Hunter Insurance Agency prior to entering the service. Allen Hunter received his training at Parris Island, South Carolina; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and Camp Pendleton, California. He was sent to Korea on February 26, 1952, and served with Company E, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On April 18, 1952, Allen, then a corporal, was wounded during combat in South Korea in an area referred to as the "Western Outposts." He died of those wounds aboard the USS Consolation two days later.
The body of Corporal Allen Edward Hunter was returned to the United States in June of 1952 and interred in Woodlawn Cemetery in Marion County.
