| Clifford Dale Watson was born January 3, 1921, at Mabie, West Virginia, the second of 12 children born to Rufus and Rebecca Shreve Watson. As a youth he attended Randolph County schools and worked on the family's 68-acre farm at Mabie. He entered the Army on October 12, 1942, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and received training at Fort Breckinridge, Kentucky. Clifford went overseas in 1944, assigned to the 329th Infantry, 83rd Infantry Division, a tank battalion. On July 7, 1944, he was serving in France with the anti-tank infantry unit when he was killed in action. Burial was in the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, France. PFC. Clifford Watson was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart. |
