Head Quarters 10th Va Vols
Winchester Va Feby 8th 1863

Sir,
The Colonel hands me a communication from you asking again for the descriptive list of the regiment.

When I received you order for the same thing before I was taken prisoner in Oct last. I made an effort to get the necessary lists from the several companies which were however so scattered and so frequently changing stations that they could not be obtained. The matter will now be attended to with all possible dispatch.

There is one sentence in your letter which I do not understand - namely: "Also muster Rolls of the Entire Regiment- that is, of the different companies, Detachments and muster of officers." Do you require a copy of the "Muster in rolls of the regiment? Please explain by return mail.

Very Respectfully
Yours etc

Genl:
In the list of officers given in your report I observe some errors, and as I suppose your records are similarly wrong beg leave to submit the enclosed corrections:

I enclose also Lt. R. W. Varner's commission - please return when recorded.

Capt Ewing represents to me that his commission entitled him to rank from the 21st day of July 1862 - he has no means of ascertaining the date of it's issue - as it was captured by the enemy.

My Dear Sir:
I am making an effort to obtain pay for services rendered in the Army prior to muster-in and to do that it becomes necessary for me to to establish the fact that I actually performed duty by virtue of commission.

I desire from you an official certificate to the effect that, notwithstanding, you did not then occupy your present position officially (my commission is from Jany 18 & I was mustered in March 3rd 1862) you are personally cognizant of the fact that from the 18th day of March 1862, to the date of my muster in I was continuously and actively engaged in the service of the United States, under the orders of Lt Col (now Genl) T. M. Harris whose Hd Qrs were then at Weston, W. Va., that I had charge of the Recruits for the 10th Regt Va. Infantry at Harrisville contracting for the subsistence & drawing clothing for them (you remember copying articles of contract reference Day & myself Jany 31st 1862) - that I actually obtained twenty five or more recruits in the neighborhood of Harrisville, that I several times reported in person to Lt. Col. T. M. Harris at Weston, distant fifty miles, and that to your own knowledge I used my own private horse in said service.

Please make as explicit & full as you can. If you can not certify to all the items mentioned above, please put in what you care & if you can, get a letter from the Govr addressed to the proper office recommending that I be paid for the time mentioned, as intervening between Date of Com & muster-in, send both official to me as soon as convenient. As to the horse, you remember that I used a large gray horse belonging to my father,

Please accept an assurance of my very high regards.

Yours truly
O. P. Boughner
For the plasters you sent me, please accept, even at this late day, my thanks. I'm sorry to say that I am still lame but hope eventually to recover. I just retd from Balto - had a good time - how is Wheeling.
