Please allow me to recommend to your Consideration the Name of George W. Wilson Orderly Sergent of Co. B 3rd Regt of West Va Cavl as a Propper Person for Promotion to 1st Lieut of Co B. 3rd west va Cavl a vacancy having occurred by the death of 1st Lieut Johnston Killed by the Enemy at Salem on return from Genl. Martins expedition to Lynchburg

at which time the above Named Sergt Wilson was engaged in a hotly contested fight with the Enemy during which he received a severe wound in the thie but whilest in the engagement was evidently known to kill two Rebbles and notwithstanding the severity of his wound he traveled on horse back the entire rout successfully from Salem to Charleston and is Soon to be found at his post in the field again Sergent Wilson posesses Patriatism and bravery such as dare not be questioned by any and no man posesses greater merit than him Self so for as affesdunely? has been offered His gentlemanly and Moral Character none Can question. Please allow me to Say further it always affords me Pleasure to See merit Justely Compansated However humble the Character may be and if it should be according to your good Pleasure to refur Sergent Wilson in his Promotion I feel well assured you will have no Cause to regret the refurment As it will afford your humble Servant Greater Pleasure to here for be Promoting of the Sergent.

A Better and braver man than Lieut L. Clark I think did not live, and any meanes that Can be offered to his friends as a token of respect. But not as a Compensation for his loss for this would be Impossible.

Dear Gov

Please allow me to inform you that I Expect Soon to be Mustered Out of the U. S. Service a Maj in the 3rd W.Va Cavalry. I have tendered all ready My resignation before a Surgeon Certificate of disabiltity what recep it will meete with is yet to determine but I have evidence it will go through I have Truly been unable for the Service ever cince My return from the Lynchburg Rade

Allthough I have been Constantly (?) I played Fife and Drums in evy direction but with the Regt (the place I most Dreamed to be)

In the Event of my muster out there will be a vacancy to fill I desire to Call your attention at this Early moment to the fact that theire appears allready a discussion in the Brigade to overlook the rights of the officers of the Regt. Which as a Matter corse you Controle May I Respectfully ask that this be not done there is as deserving Line Officers in the Regt as in any Other and Men two whom Can appreciate Justice I beg leve to renew my earnest regret that the Name of the Capt T H Roane of my Olde Ca be favorably Considered with you for the Majority

I have been Solicited this day to Subscribe a Petition to your Excl for the promotion of a Lieut of the Regt to the Posision a thing by no means that I Could do In view of the actual Honest Clauses of others. I hold the Doctrine Sacred in was their Should be Honour
