Adjutant General Commanding Virginia

Dear Sir,

Ralph Omstead, Major of the 5th Regiment Virginia Volunteer Infantry, and James Baisden, 2nd Lieutenant in Company "F" were both shot dead while passing along the road near Cassville Virginia on the 2nd day of September 1861.
Elisha Ferguson died of flux in the hospital on the 4th day of October 1861.
Inventory of the effects of Major Omstead, deceased; 1 saddle, 1 bridle, 1 pair spurs, 1 pair boots, 1 suit military clothing, sword, belt and sash.
His parents take (took) charge of his effects.
Lieutenant Baisden and Elisha Ferguson left no effects.
