Know all men by these presents that we Henry Hanshaw, George S King, William H King, Lewis Mullens, George Nicholas, John H Sampels, Philander Samples, Joseph Sehoonores Daniel Pierson, Charles W King, Henry H Mullins, Anderson M Samples, John Ashley, William Chapman, Isiah King, & Ethan A.Holeomly residents of said county and state are hereby constitute and appoint JM McWhorter of the county of Roane
residing in Wheeling WV and state of West Virginia our true and lawfull [sic] attorney for us and in our names place and stead to sign our names to the Pay Rolls of Captain William King of Clay County in said state (of state militia) organized for deefince [sic] of the state now West Virginia and which Rolls is filed in the Dr Milson office at Wheeling West Virginia
And we do further authorize our said agent to receive the money due each one of us for services rendered in said company as will fully appear by reference to the rolls of same, and to do any and all other law full act that we would be required to do were we present in person. Hereby ratttifying [sic] and confirming all that our said attorney may or shall lawfully due in the
