Civil War Union Militia Correspondence


We F J Baxter and John Sands Superintendents appointed by a company of Riflemen convened at Clay court house to hold an election for officers for the said company, do certify that said election was held on the 4th day of April 1863 in pursuance of the laws in relation there to and the vote fairly and impartially taken and that a majority of the company were present and that Benjamin L Stephenson Received the entire vote for the office of Captain of said company and James Mullins received a majority of the votes cast for first Lieutenant of said company and Samuel E Young received a majority of the vote for second Lieutenant for said company and were accordingly declared elected
