Virginia Legislative Petitions

To the Hon. The House of Delegates of the state of Virginia now in session.

The undersigned citizens & loyal voters of the county of Jackson & that part of Roane, struck off from Jackson county, respectfully represent to your honorable body, that whereas a vacancy has occurred from Jackson & Roane by the treason of Danl. Frost, the member, elect, & whereas said vacancy is to be filled by your Hon. Body they pray that said vacancy may be filled by the appointment of George W. Duvall Esq. of Roane Cty voting with Jackson. Your petitioners would state in enforcement of Mr. Duvall's claim, that he was the candidate & regular nominee of the Southern States rights party & was defeated but by a small majority comparatively with the vote given on the ordinance of secession, that he is in fact the choice of the loyal citizens of Jackson & Roane___ & his appointment would be gratifying to your petitioners, who are now in the army of the Kanawha ___. And as in duty bound with our prayers. Camp near Dublin depot Dec 26th 1861
