Headquarters 24th Brigade V. M.,
Wheeling, May 20, 1863.

General Orders No. 4, 1863.

I. In pursuance of an order of the Governor, the 4th and 5th Regiments of the 24th Brigade V. M., will be held in readiness for active service, and to that end the various companies composing those regiments will assemble at their several places of muster for inspection and drill on each Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock precisely, commencing on the 23d inst. Those drills will be superintended by the field and staff officers of each regiment.

II. Arms and Accoutrements for each company will be ____ upon the requisition in proper form of the Captain, and will by him be delivered to the men, under such regulations as shall be best to secure their preservation and safe return. All receipts taken from the men to be filed by the Adjutant of the regiment.

III. It is especially conjoined upon each Captain to have made a full and accurate enrollment of every one liable to military duty within his company district, and immediately after each muster return to the Adjutant of his regiment a correct list of all absentees.

IV. Musters of each regiment and of the brigade will be held at such times as may be hereafter ordered. By order,
