LIEUT. SMITH
March 2, 1864
LIEUT. SMITH, of the Pennsylvania Engineers, brought in two rebel soldiers yesterday morning, who were captured in Marion county a few days ago, concealed between the ceiling and weather-boarding of a dwelling house belonging to and occupied by Alpheus Hood. Hood was also arrested for concealing the said rebels and lodged in the Atheneum. A few days ago J. M. Lake, of Webster, Taylor county, was brought in, charged with illegally trading with soldiers in United States horses. He was turned over by Capt. Over to the United States Court for trial. A stringent law is in existence against such offenders.
