ARRIVAL OF GEN. KELLEY
March 11, 1864
Gen. Kelley the hero of Western Virginia, arrived in the city last evening, and put up at the M'Lure House. The General has received a leave of absence for thirty days, on account that arduous labors and the manner in these have affected the wound be received in the battle of Phillippi [sic], in the summer of 1861.
He will remain here a few days, and then any visit his son in Philadelphia, and friends in New York.
When the train left Cumberland a gloom was said to hang over the countenances of the people of the town; a hearty "Good bye, General!" was heard from almost every person present at the depot. At the different stops along the route of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad between Cumberland and this city the General was greeted with deafening cheers from the crowds which had gathered to see him.
