Wheeling, West Va., April 18, 1865.
Wednesday, the 19th instant, at the hour of 12 o'clock, M., having been fixed upon for the Funeral Ceremonies of Abraham Lincoln, late President of the United States, I recommend to the people of this State, that as a slight expression of their profound respect for the memory of the deceased and appreciation of his private virtues and public acts, they abstain from all secular employment on that day, and observe it as a day of fasting and prayer; and that they repair to their usual places of public worship, at the hour named, for the purpose of solemnizing the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.
