Exciting News From Calhoun County.- A report which is considered reliable reached the city yesterday that a large body of rebels had come down from the vicinity of Lewisburg and captured a whole company of the 11th Virginia Regiment stationed at, or scouting near Arnoldsburg, in Calhoun county. Major Trimble was in command of the troops at Arnoldsburg. The rebels are said to have come down between Bull Town and Summerville [sic] at both of which points federal troops are stationed. The report is likely true for it is known that there were a considerable number of rebels near Lewisburg and the country being open there was nothing to prevent them from coming down as stated. It is thought, however, that the federal soldiers captured were not at Arnoldsburg, but were scouting in the counties adjoining. Immediate steps were taken to intercept the retreat of the rebels and it is not unlikely that they will yet be gobbled up.
Speaker Frost last evening received the following confirmatory dispatch:
Parkersburg, May 9
D. Frost:- I have learned that Arnoldsburg and Spencer have been taken by the rebels. It is said that at Arnoldsburg a large quantity of government stores were taken by the enemy and that they captured one hundred of our men.
