Timeline of West Virginia: Civil War and Statehood
Undated
February 1865

Wheeling Daily Intelligencer

HOME AGAIN.:Sergeant John Marsh of this city, a member of Captain Holmes' battery, who was captured some months ago at New Creek, has returned from Richmond in company with the rest of the unfortunate boys of that battery, and passed through the city on Wednesday on their way to Camp Chase. Sergeant Marsh gives a very disconraging [sic] account of his prison life. Five of the members of the battery died in prison. We learn that the boys will return from Camp Chase in a few days, when we shall doubtless learn more of their experience in Dixie.
