Description:  The Virginia General Assembly passed an act which incorporated the Preston Navigation and Manufacturing Company for the purpose of making Cheat River navigable for boats and rafts from Ice's Ferry to the Horseshoe Bottom, and to manufacture iron and lumber. Subscription books were opened in Preston County under the direction of the following commissioners: John Ambler, Gustavus Cresap, J. G. Ambler, James Averill, D. C. Ambler, and Buckner Fairfax.
