The Virginia General Assembly passed an act which incorporated the Cheat River Navigation Company to improve navigation on the Cheat River. Subscription books were opened at Ice's Ferry in Monongalia County and at Kingwood in Preston County, under the direction of the following commissioners: Evan T. Ellicott, John Rude, Seth Stafford, Jacob Baker, Elisha M. Hagans, Buckner Fairfax, Israel Baldwin, and John Ambler. |
