Description:  The Virginia General Assembly passed an act which incorporated the Kingwood and West Union Turnpike Company to construct a turnpike road from at or near the town of West Union on the Northwestern Turnpike Road to Kingwood in Preston County, to a point on the Beverly Road west of Laurel Hill in the direction of Morgantown. Subscription books were opened under the direction of the following commissioners: at German Settlement, Preston County, under Jacob Stertsman, John Shaver, and William H. Grimes; in Kingwood, under Buckner Fairfax, E. M. Hagans, and Israel Baldwin; and in Morgantown, under Edgar C. Wilson, Alexander Hayes, and William Lazier.
