The Virginia General Assembly passed an act which incorporated the Leading Creek and Buffalo Creek Turnpike Company to construct a road from a point on the Beverly and Fairmont Turnpike Road near Leading Creek Bridge, to Leading Creek Valley, to the mouth of Clover Run on Cheat River, to the Buffalo Creek Valley, to the Northwestern Turnpike Road and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad near its crossing of Cheat River in Preston County. Subscription books were opened under the direction of the following commissioners: at William Ewing's, under William Ewing, William Harper, William Marsh, Francis Tolbert, and T. M. Purington; in Beverly, Randolph County, under David Blackman, Eli Butcher, William Faris, and Garrison Stalnaker; and in Kingwood, Preston County, under Elisha M. Hagans, Israel Baldwin, Thomas Brown, and Charles Hooton. |
