The Virginia General Assembly passed an act which incorporated the Pleasant Valley and Tunnelton Turnpike Company to construct a road from at or near Ice's Ferry across Cheat River on the Maryland and Fishing Creek Turnpike, to the Pleasant Valley meeting house in Preston County between the property of James Reed and David C. Miles, by Zinn's Mills, to the Tunnelton Station on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Subscription books were opened under the direction of the following commissioners: Samuel Graham, Mahlin Hartley, Thomas Watson, David C. Miles, James Reed, Peter M. Heartley, Lemuel B. Menear, Robert Freeburne, Aquilla A. Fortney, David M. Riley, Buckner Fortney, Godfrey G. Murdock, John Weaver, Henry Le Bosquet, Caleb Coun, James C. McGrew, John Bowers, William N. Jarret, and William B. Weaver. |
