Description: |
The British Privy Council approved the petition of the Walpole Company (also known as the Grand Ohio Company) to establish Vandalia, comprising all of present-day West Virginia west and south of the Fairfax Stone in present-day Preston County, as the fourteenth colony. Due to the implausibility of obtaining quitrents and the revolution movement following the Boston Tea Party, the Vandalia scheme never developed. |
