Description:  The Canaan Boom and Lumber Company was incorporated in West Virginia by the following: M. E. Howe, Adam H. Bowman, E. B. Stone of Rowlesburg, Preston County; William L. Boughner of Fairmont, Marion County; and Adam C. Minear of St. George, Tucker County. The company's purpose was to operate booms or dams and lumber business on the Black Fork or Blackwater River of the Cheat River in Canaan, Tucker County, at or near the mouth of Beaver prong of Black Fork at or near the Five Birches, with its main office at Rowlesburg, Preston County.
