The picnic exhibit larger. Around 1950, Mrs. Beverley M. Reed of Charleston wore this gingham swim suit on family vacations and to the local pool. It has elasticized legs and straps. Donated by the owners son, Kelley E. Reed III of Charleston. Mu 80-25.28 The cloth napkin used in this picnic setting is from a place setting donated by the Department of the Navy and from the USS Stump (DD-978). West Virginia native, Admiral Felix Stump achieved the rank of four star rank and Commander in Chief of all Armed Forces in the Pacific in the early 1950s. At the time of the donation in 1986, the U.S.S. Stump was West Virginia's flagship. Donated by the United States Navy. Mu 86-86.17 This summer dress is made of ivory net with ivory lace panels on front and back. The bodice is fitted with an ivory lace-trimmed polished cotton sleeveless lining, ca. 1910. This quilt was selected as a 1997 Juried Quilt Exhibit purchase award winner to be included in the collections of the West Virginia State Museum. It was made by Janet Mercer of Parkersburg and titled "Sunshine and Stars".
