Northern Virginia Art Center is searching for talented professional artists with a cohesive body of work to exhibit in their new Special Exhibitions space in the heart of Crystal City's thriving restaurant district. 380 square feet of gleaming exhibition space available for monthly exhibits of 2D or 3D art! Their full time gallery staff will assist in exhibit installation, process sales of your work, and will coordinate your opening reception, all for a small fee and low sales commission.

Pricketts Fort: Through Artists' Eyes invites entries for a juried art exhibit. This show and sale will benefit the foundation's education, programming and preservation efforts. Any artwork that reflects the period, culture, history, people, or landscape of Pricketts Fort and the West Virginia frontier is welcome. Works need not be representational, but should speak to the past, present or future of this place.

Signal Fire is pleased to announce our 2012 programs and Call for Applicants. We are now accepting applications from all creative disciplines for the 4th annual Outpost Residency and the 2012 Overture Backpacking Retreat. Applications are due March 15, 2012.
Signal Fire was formed in 2008 by activist Amy Harwood and artist Ryan Pierce in response to the urban demand on working artists. We bring artists to the farthest stretches of our remaining wild and open places, crafting experiences that instill self-reliance and catalyze new creative energy. We utilize public lands to advocate for the access to— and protection of— these places in order to enrich and sustain society.
This year’s Outpost Residency will host eight artists for two separate one-week sessions in Eastern Oregon’s remote and breathtaking Wallowa Mountains. The selected artists will live and work in studio-size canvas wall tents. Signal Fire organizers provide food, lead optional hikes, and have wilderness medical training. Applications are due March 15th and will be reviewed by a guest jury comprised of writer Matthew Stadler, musician M. William Helfrich (mbilly), visual artists Anna Gray and Ryan Wilson Paulsen, and filmmaker Julie Perini. The residency period is July 14-20 and July 22-28, and is free to selected applicants.
From June 30- July 6, Signal Fire offers Overture, a backpacking retreat in Mt Hood National Forest near Portland, Oregon. This will be out third guided backpacking retreat, returning to the same ancient forests and pristine waters from last year’s popular Love Triangle Hike. This trip is offered at-cost to participants. Free applications to both Outpost and Overture can be found on our website.
Next autumn Signal Fire will also be organizing Afloat, a canoe trip on Utah’s Green River. This program is by invitation only, as a trial run for open-application river trips in coming years.

National Film Preservation Foundation Invites Applications for Basic Preservation Grants
The National Film Preservation Foundation is inviting applications for the summer round of its Basic Preservation Grants. These grants are awarded to nonprofit and public institutions conducting laboratory work to preserve culturally and historically significant film materials.
Grants are available to public and 501(c)(3) nonprofit institutions in the U.S. that provide public access to their collections, including those that are part of federal, state, or local government. The grants target orphan films made in the U.S. or by American citizens abroad and not protected by commercial interests. Materials originally created for television or video are not eligible, including works produced with funds from broadcast or cable television entities.
Grant funds must be used to pay for new laboratory work involving the creation of new film preservation elements (which may include sound tracks) and two new public access copies, one of which must be a film print. The grant does not fund HD transfers.
Awards generally range from $1,000 to $15,000 in cash and/or laboratory services.

WOODSTOCK A-I-R, the Center for Photography at Woodstock's residency program for artists of color working in photography who reside in the United States.
In 2011, we will provide time, space, facilities, honoraria, and critical and technical support to artists and critics who are doing remarkable work with the photographic medium. Thanks to increased support from the NEA and the Warhol Foundation, we are now working with 8 artists each year, offer longer residencies (3-6 weeks) that overlap (meaning two A-I-Rs at a time), and bring our residents closer to our facilities, by providing housing in a furnished house within walking distance of CPW.
But, we need all the help we can get in spreading the word to relevant programs and networks such as yourself. Please help us get the word out about this fantastic opportunity!

The Bronx Museum of the Arts proudly announces the launch of the new smARTpower program. smARTpower will send fifteen U.S. artists abroad to work with local artists and young people around the world to create community-based art projects. The objective of smARTpower is to support the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs mission to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries, emphasizing shared social and cultural values. THE UCROSS FOUNDATION RESIDENCY PROGRAM for the arts and literature offers residencies for 2-8 weeks. Located on a 22,000acre working cattle ranch in the foothills of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains, the Foundation provides individual workspace, living accommodations, uninterrupted time and the experience of the historic High Plains landscape to selected writers, artists, and composers working in all disciplines. There is no charge for room, board, or studio space. The quality of an applicant’s work is given primary consideration in the review process; individuals from all stages of their professional careers are invited to apply. At any one time there are typically 8 individuals in residence. Facilities include an Elephant etching press and a composer’s cabin which has an electronic keyboard, synthesizer, and piano.
