Announcement
Come celebrate the Twenty-ninth Annual West Virginia History Day on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The event will be held at the West Virginia State Capitol Complex during the 1st session of the 87th West Virginia Legislature. West Virginia History Day is officially designated by the West Virginia Archives and History Commission as a special day to recognize the state's rich and varied history. Other co-sponsors of the event are Mining Your History Foundation, Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, Inc., West Virginia Association of Museums, West Virginia Historical Society, West Virginia Humanities Council, and West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History.
Please make note of these important dates:
December 31, 2024. - Deadline for submission of the History Hero Nomination Form. Must be postmarked by that date.

February 14, 2025. - Deadline for submission of the Display Space Reservation Form.

Important Information for Displayers
Please read these before you make plans for History Day.
1. Nothing should be taped to the marble. This includes taping down cords with ANY kind of tape and taping signs to the columns or walls.
2. No helium balloons.
3. Cooking of any kind should be accompanied by a fire extinguisher provided by the vendor. Any cooking must be pre-approved before the event (list it on the bottom of page 4 on the contract).
4. We do not provide extension cords. Users should take this into consideration when choosing where their booths will be located. You may bring your own extension cords, but please be considerate of trip hazards and bring cord protectors as needed.
5. You cannot sell products on the Capitol grounds unless you are a 501(c) non-profit organization in good standing with the WV Secretary of State's office who has been pre-approved to sell on the grounds.
6. If you are blocking a doorway, you will be asked to move.
7. The building does not open until 7:45. There are no special circumstances to get into the building beforehand.
8. All music usage or musical instruments must be pre-approved to accommodate daily business (list instruments on the bottom of page 4 on the contract).
9. Dock access is limited to 30 minutes for loading/unloading. We only use the East dock on California Ave. All requests for dock access must be submitted a minimum of 3 days prior to the event. This includes information for caterers. Please see the bottom half of the final page of the contract for details needed.
You may submit the completed PDF of the Display Space Reservation Form electronically by e-mail. You should save the completed form to your computer first and then e-mail it as an attachment. The online History Hero Nomination Form cannot be submitted electronically and must be printed out, signed, and delivered by hand or by regular mail via the Post Office or other postal carrier.
In completing the Display Space Reservation Form, remember to mark if you need electricity. Assignments are made on a first come, first served basis.
Also regarding the Display Space Reservation Form, in addition to organization name, we must have the name, complete mailing address, and phone number for your organization's contact person. We are required to provide this information to General Services before History Day.
We will send notification of receipt of these forms to the contact person. It will be sent by e-mail if the contact person provided an e-mail address and by regular mail if an e-mail address is not given. If you do not hear from us within two weeks of sending your form(s), contact us immediately. That likely means we have not received any form(s) from you!
