Christmas Dinner to Co. E, Sixth Va.

Editors Intelligencer:
At a meeting of Co. E, of the 6th regiment Va. volunteer infantry, held at this place, Capt. Peirpoint was called to the chair, and the object of the meeting explained.
On motion, Lieut. J. A. Summers was nominated Vice President, and P. J. Cunningham, Secretary.
On motion of the President, a committee of seven was appointed to draft resolutions; namely, Lieut. L. Dotson, Sergeants G. M. Ireland, J. B. Westfall, Charles Dotson, Amos Kendall and D. S. Bush and the Secretary. Whereupon the committee produced the following preamble and resolutions:
WHEREAS: We members of Co. E having been the honored recipients of a splendid Christmas present in the shape of a sumptuous dinner (prepared in a manner seldom equalled and never surpassed) from the noble and patriotic Ladies of Central Station and vicinity. Therefore be it
Resolved, That we feel proud of the honor thus conferred upon us, the more, from the fact, that having been stationed in their immediate vicinity for the past fifteen months, they have had an opportunity of observing our acts, both civil and military, and for such a testimonial from such a source, we feel that we have just cause to be proud.
Resolved, That while engaged in the service of our country, the remembrance of this token of their confidence and esteem shall cheer us in our despondency and strengthen our hearts in the hour of danger; and that it shall be our constant endeavor to prove ourselves worthy of the respect and confidence of those ladies who have thus expressed their approval of our past military life.
Resolved, That we shall ever remember with pleasure the time in which it was our good fortune to be stationed in their vicinity, and the many favors and acts of kindness we received from their hands.
Resolved, That as those ladies have shown such a kind regard and high esteem, we ever stand true to our posts, as brave and patriotic soldiers, and protect them with our lives.
Resolved, That we will never, by any act, forfeit the esteem of these ladies who have shown their approbation of our past military life in such unmistakable terms, but that it shall ever be our chief aim in life to prove ourselves worthy of their esteem.
Resolved, That we appreciate the kindness that actuated the hearts of the donors of the delicacies and luxuries to the soldiers, and may we ever prove worthy of the confidence of the ladies, whose generous hearts and noble nature is always ready to administer to the wants of the soldier.
Resolved, That a copy of the above be signed and forwarded to the ladies of Central Station and vicinity; and also that a copy be transmitted to the office of the Wheeling Intelligencer for publication.
