Meeting at Cameron.
April 10, 1863
A meeting of the citizens of the 7th precinct of Marshall county was held at the school house in Cameron. J. R. Bell was called to the Chair and W. H. H. Showacre appointed Secretary.
The following proceedings were adopted after some discussion:
Whereas, A convention is to assemble in Parkersburg in ten days after the President's Proclamation declaring West Virginia one of the States of the Union; for the purpose of nominating State officers, and Whereas, it is desirable that Marshall county be fairly represented, therefore,
Resolved, That District No. 7 appoint delegates to a county convention to assemble in Moundsville on next Court day to select delegates to the Parkersburg convention and recommend the other Districts to appoint the same.
On motion, A. C. Marling, John Parkinson and J. R. Hagar were appointed delegates to the county convention.
On motion, That in the event of the want of time to hold a county convention that the delegates appointed by this meeting to the county convention be authorized to act as delegates to the Parkersburg convention.
On motion, Resolved, That this meeting cheerfully recommend R. C. Holiday, Esq., as a suitable person for Judge of this Judicial circuit. He is a good lawyer, an honest and loyal citizen, and has devoted his time and talents in defense of the Union and West Virginia.
On motion, Resolved, That this meeting cordially recommend A. O. baker to the Union voters of this county as a suitable person to fill the office of Sheriff.
On motion, That the proceedings of this meeting be published in the Wheeling Intelligencer.
