Gen. J. A. J. Lightburn, formerly Colonel of the 4th Virginia infantry, who conducted the famous retreat from the Kanawha Valley, and fought the rebels so gallantly, is in command of the 24th brigade of militia, of this city. He assumed command yesterday afternoon. The utmost confidence exists in his judgment and courage. Gen. Lightburn has lately been on duty opposite Vicksburg.
