General Assembly of Virginia

July 1, 1861


The General Assembly met at 12, M., yesterday, in the United States Courtroom at the Custom House.

J. G. WEST, of Wetzel, called the body to order, and nominated G. L. Cranmer Esq. For temporary Clerk.

On motion, Rev. Gordon Battelle was requested to open the session with prayer, which request was complied with.

At the suggestion of Mr. Moss, of Wood, the Clerk called the roll, when it was discovered that there was not a quorum present.

On motion of Mr. Porter, of Hancock, the Assembly then adjourned till to-morrow at 12 M.

The Senate met at the same hour as the House of Delegates, and organized temporarily by electing J. E. Wilson Clerk, and Jesse Wheat Sergeant-at-arms. They then adjourned over till ten o'clock, A. M., to-morrow.
